As staff speak with contacts, they help individuals assess risk and share information and instructions for self-monitoring, isolation and staying healthy. Public health staff then reach out to and warn those exposed individuals or (contacts) of their potential exposure as rapidly and sensitively as possible. In conducting contact tracing, public health staff speak with individuals who have probable or diagnosed COVID-19 illness and help them recall everyone with whom they have had close contact during the timeframe in which they may have been infectious.
